Rico started her rapping carrier in high school. In 2014, she released her first mixtape called “Summer’s Eve”. After completing high school, Rico focused solely on her music career. Consequently, she released two mixtapes “The Rico Story” and “Suger Trap” in 2016. She gained some early fame with the release of her single “iCarly” the same year. It went viral on Youtube almost instantly. Her single “Hey Arnold” was remixed by famous rapper Lil Yachty in 2017. Nasty released yet another viral single “Poppin” which gained more than 5 million views on Youtube. “Poppin” was also featured on the HBO series “Insecure”. Her mixtape “Rolling Stone 2” released in October 2017 was listed as one of the best Rap Albums of 2017 by Rolling Stone.
Rico gained the attention of Atlantic Records and signed with them in 2018. She released her popular sixth mixtape “Nasty” with them. In April 2019, Rico along with producer Kenny beats released a collaborative mixtape “Anger Management”. The album is arguably her most successful one to date. Rico appeared on the cover of the British music magazine NME in September of 2020.
Early Life
Rico was born on 7 May 1997 in Brooklyn to a music loving family. Nasty’s father introduced her to rap music when she was a child. She went to a boarding school in Baltimore but got expelled 3 years later. She was then transferred to Charles Herbers Flowers High School where her music career started. Rico’s father was arrested and sent to prison the following year. Growing up was quite hard for Rico as her parents got divorced when she was just 15.
Personal Life
Rico had a boyfriend called Brandon, who sadly passed away due to an asthma attack. She gave birth to her son Cameron at age 18 when she was in her senior year of high school. Rico publicly revealed that she considers her manager, Malik Foxx a father figure.
